“Every passing moment is another chance to turn it all around” Vanilla Sky

I have a great online mentor who recommended that I read the book “The Go Giver” by Bob Burg and John David Mann.

Now I love reading books, fiction and non-fiction – especially business books. I usually have three on the go at once so that whatever mood I am in I can pick up one or the other and enjoy them.

So this book arrived in the post around lunchtime on thursday last week so I thought I would have a quick read of the first chapter whilst I had my lunch.

An hour and a half later I had read the whole book – I just couldn’t put it down. It is a very inspirational story and one that is consistent with my values and thinking anyway. Any of you who have asked me to help them with their blogs will attest that I am always happy to lend a hand when I have time.

Its a story about a young man who has a deadline to hit and not long to do it. He is stressed and hassled and worried that he will yet again not reach his target for the quarterly figures at the company where he works.

He is introduced to a man who is calm, assured and successful without any of the status usually encountered with someone so obviously wealthy.

Anyway the young man is taken on a journey that transforms his thinking and he is completely changed at the end of it.

I don’t want to give the plot away but go and buy it as you will enjoy it and it will hopefully encourage you (if you don’t already) to help others rather than be pushy and status driven.

If you look it up on Amazon you should find it for about £12 or so..in the UK anyway!

If you have already read it let me know what you thought of it here with a comment!

What makes you happy?

I have been thinking about what makes us happy.

After much thought I believe that it changes throughout life, and the things that made you happy as a child get forgotten as we grow older.

I remember sunny days, fun, playing out, riding my bike, running on the beach at the edge of the sea, my mum calling us in for tea.

So what makes our perspective change?

Things that have made me unhappy in the past are fear, stress, worrying about work, relationships, death and money.

As a child you don’t have these worries but also you do not have much responsibility either. So it looks as though these things are linked.

Also the past has a lot to do with worry and unhappiness. If we think back to sad times we stay chained in that moment and still feel guilt, remorse, anger and other negative emotions.

How can some people with a huge amount of responsibility – running corporations or leading a country cope and still appear happy?

Something that I was told a couple of years ago really helped me to put life into perspective and rediscover happiness. I was told “There are two days you can do nothing about – yesterday and tomorrow”. When I really thought about this it made so much sense. I cannot undo what has been done and I have no influence over things that may happen in the future – so just enjoy today!

When my mum died in October – it seems like only yesterday sometimes – I was very sad and still miss her so much. However she was such a source of joy and laughter. She made us all laugh constantly with her stories and jokes….must be where I get it from!

So I decided to remember her fondly and with happiness in my heart. I made a collage of photos for the funeral and have it near my desk. I didn’t realise it at the time but in every photo she is either smiling or laughing. That has taught me a lot. Whenever I feel anxious or stressed I look over at the photos and smile.

So the things that make me happy now are…

A sunny day…..the motivation to work hard to achieve our dream of living by the sea in a warm climate….phone calls from my children with their tales of the days events…watching a good film snuggled up with my wife….watching football…playing golf…..working on my online business…tweeting with my new online friends all over the world….the hopes of tomorrow….no regrets.

Have a great day and stop thinking about yesterday or worrying about tomorrow and live in the moment.

My favourite quote of all time is from the film Vanilla Sky…

“Every passing moment is another chance to turn it all around”.

Let me know what makes you happy with a comment!

Current Projects

I have been very busy creating some new products and will have a couple of them ready very soon.

The first one is a basic guide to setting up a twitter account, changing the settings and background and ensuring that you stay within the twitter limits so you don’t get into any trouble with twitter.

I am also including a guide to gaining twitter followers by interactions and tweets rather than just churning follows and unfollows which can get you banned!

Included with the guide is a video to show you how to do all this step by step.

If you have been on twitter for a while you may find this quite easy but I will also be bringing out a more advanced guide in a few months which may suit you better.

The good thing is that this basic guide is free and as soon as it is ready I will tweet it to you and include a link to it on this blog.

The other product I am working on is an advanced autoblog guide. I have already produced a basic guide to autoblogging but this advanced guide goes into much more detail and once set up will save you a lot of time and energy!

Anyway I just thought I would give you a quick update as you may have wondered why I have been so quiet recently!

Until we speak again – take care and stay positive.

How to set up a blog from scratch

Welcome to my newly designed blog with a fresh new feel for 2010.

I have just completed my first book about blogging and am working on two more at the moment.

I want to help as many people as possible to be able to build their own blogs so if you look at the top of the blog you will see a link to a free ebook that I have just finished writing for you.

It contains a step by step process to take you from choosing a name for your blog to making your first post.

Did I mention it is free?

All you need to do is click on the image of the book opposite and you will be taken to my secure download page. I use aweber to deliver all of my content so you need to give me permission to do so. Don’t worry I won’t spam you or divulge your details to anyone else.

Let me know what you think and leave a comment if you have time.

Until the next post!

Taking action is the key to success

Success

I think we all are guilty of losing focus every now and again. I use a system to try and keep me on track which works as long as I use it!

I have binders that I bought from a stationery store which is a “Things to do today”. Each page has the heading “Things to do today” And there are 3 columns that I use:

Priority, List and Completed.

So for example I would list my tasks for the day after a little bit of thought regarding what I would like to get done and what NEEDS to be done. So a typical list would be:

Listen to Tony Robbins Get the edge, Tidy Office, File paperwork, Work on my blogging guide, Post to blogs, Post to lead generation sources, Configure tweet adder for new followers

I then prioritise this list into A’s B’s and C’s then further into A1, A2 A3 etc.

I give most priority to the tasks that are the most urgent then do A1 first and so on. This way the tasks that have to be done get done and the others move up the list.

A very important step is to tick off the things you do once they are complete.

It’s not my method but one I learned from Steven Covey.

Also this year I made one resolution – to succeed in my online business.

I use another method to keep focus that I read from Dr Mani on the Warrior Forum:

Passion, Purpose, Persistence, Set Goals, Make a plan, Believe it will work, Work the plan, Achieve goals, Repeat

Its day 11 of 2010 and I have stuck to it so far and achieved more than I did in the whole of last year!

One last thing, I used to chop and change from one system to another but over xmas decided to follow just one system. I used Kevin Riley’s Rocket Product Creation and now have a sales system and a product. This was achieved in 7 days. I am now working on my next product which will be finished in the next 10 days.

Don’t give up anyone just stick to one thing and do it well.
